Terms of Service

Effective Date: February 22, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Ask Norm (asknorm.ca / asknorm.com), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms apply to all visitors, registered users, and anyone who purchases a report.

2. Description of Service

Ask Norm is an AI-powered construction materials estimator designed to help Ontario homeowners, DIYers, and tradespeople estimate material costs for construction projects. The Service provides conversational AI-guided project estimation, direct input estimation for trades professionals, material shopping lists, Ontario permit requirement flags, and downloadable PDF project reports.

3. Nature of Estimates — Important Disclaimer

All estimates produced by Ask Norm are approximations only. They are generated by an artificial intelligence system and are intended to help you budget. They are NOT professional engineering assessments, guaranteed prices, legally binding quotes, or a substitute for obtaining actual contractor quotes. Material prices fluctuate by location, time, and availability. We make no representation that any estimate will reflect your actual material costs. Always obtain quotes from suppliers before purchasing.

4. Permit Information Disclaimer

Ask Norm flags projects that commonly require building permits under the Ontario Building Code. This information is provided as general guidance only. Permit thresholds, requirements, and fees vary by municipality. You are solely responsible for confirming permit requirements with your local municipality and ensuring work complies with the Ontario Building Code.

5. Affiliate Links & Commercial Relationships

Ask Norm participates in affiliate programs with Home Depot Canada and RONA. When you click a link in your shopping list, we may earn a commission if you make a purchase. This does not affect the price you pay. Our material recommendations and price estimates are generated independently by our AI system.

6. Free Features and Paid Reports

Free features include AI-powered estimation, materials cost ranges, permit flags, and shopping lists. PDF reports require a one-time payment of $9.99 CAD. Payments are processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your credit card information. If you experience a technical failure preventing download of a purchased report, contact us within 7 days for assistance.

7. User Accounts

You may use Ask Norm without creating an account. An account is required only to save estimates for future reference or purchase PDF reports. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. We are not liable for any loss resulting from unauthorized access due to your failure to keep credentials secure.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to: (a) use the Service for fraudulent or illegal purposes; (b) reverse-engineer or scrape our AI models or pricing data; (c) resell or redistribute estimates as your own product; (d) use automated tools to generate large volumes of estimates; or (e) violate any applicable Ontario, Canadian, or international law.

9. Intellectual Property

All content, branding, estimation logic, and software are owned by Ask Norm. PDF reports you purchase are licensed for personal, non-commercial use. You may share reports with your contractor. You may not resell or redistribute reports.

10. Third-Party Services

Ask Norm uses third-party services including Clerk (authentication), Supabase (data storage), Stripe (payments), and PostHog (analytics). Your use is subject to their privacy policies. We are not responsible for their practices. Affiliate links direct you to Home Depot Canada and RONA websites governed by their terms.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ask Norm shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages including material costs exceeding estimates, permit rejections, contractor disputes, or service interruptions. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or $9.99 CAD if no purchases were made.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and federal laws of Canada. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario.

13. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. We will update the Effective Date. For significant changes, we will notify registered users via email. Continued use constitutes acceptance of updated Terms.
